Motorola Milestone Ready to take on the Google Nexus One Phone?

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

The Motorola Milestone is the European name for the Motorola Droid which was first released in the US last year, this new Android Motorola phone has been released as a SIM Free handset with no network ties or extra ongoing line rental charges.

This initial release or the Motorola Milestone means that consumers do not have to sign up to a lengthy contract deal and be tied to one network provider, instead they can use their existing SIM card whether that be currently on a contract or the pay as you go scheme.

The user simply inserts their SIM card into the Motorola Milestone handset which will transfer all ’saved to SIM’ contact names and numbers as well as the current mobile number and provider. The SIM Free Motorola Milestone is unlocked to all network operators so any existing and ‘live’ SIM card will work.

The Milestone is the second Motorola phone to feature the Android operating system, this time however it is the newer Android 2.0 version which provides a fast user experience with 3 homescreens to place quick launch Apps. The Android Market continues to swell with new applications and although nowhere near the 150,000 claimed by the Apple store the Motorola Milestone is privvy to some 20,000 which seems to have expanded faster over the last month with the figure being closer to 15,000 in December.

The biggest Android competitor to the Milestone is Google’s new Nexus One phone, this new device device runs the slightly newer Android 2.0.1 OS although recent news stated that the Motorola Milestone will also be able to benefit with a planned upgrade very soon.

The biggest advantage over the Nexus One provided by the Milestone has to be its slide out Qwerty keyboard, this makes texting, emailing, profile updating and general text input a far faster affair with all of the characters and numbers a button push away.

Both phones feature a 5.0 mega pixel camera with autofocus but the newer Nexus One does pack a larger processor of 1GHz over the Motorola’s 550MHz which is on a par (if not a little faster) with the Apple iPhone 3Gs.

The Milestone can boast to be the slimmest Android device to feature a full slide out Qwerty keyboard, another benefit is the inclusion of the multi-direction D-Pad on the keyboard, this acts as a cursor would on a home computer or laptop and makes selecting and navigating fast and precise.

Although the Motorola Milestone has been initially released as a SIM free and unlocked mobile phone there are plans to launch the handset on the Orange network over the coming days, it is widely expected that other network launches will follow quickly with the next possibly being T-Mobile.

Alternative Android handsets that have recently been released include the Samsung Galaxy Spica, Acer Liquid and forthcoming Sony Ericsson X10 and Motorola BACKFLIP.

The Motorola Milestone is one of many new Android phones to be released this year, for more detailed information please see our mobile phones website – Phones Limited.

International calling cards – The Best Way to Stay Connected With Our Near and Dear Ones!!

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

The fast transportation methods such as high speed trains, jumbo jets, monorails etc. have made this world a smaller place. A person can easily move from one place to another without spending days on travel. With a matter of just few days, one can cover the whole world.

These kind of visits to far off places require one to stay in touch with their dear ones left behind. In this type of situation, communication via text or E-mails cannot always be suitable. And usage of local network connection would prove to be a very expensive solution. In certain cases, the International calling cards are quite useful. These cards provide a money saving option and also helps in usage of the new local connection without losing network access.

These calling cards are available on prepaid basis by paying a certain amount, and then it could be used until its value is completely used up. These can also be acquired on a contractual basis, where the total  usage can be paid with the bill in the end of the month. It is quite convenient to use them, and it certainly keeps us away from the bothering telephone booths.

There is no restriction on the location of call as it’s network dependent, but a user must follow the codes for different countries. And there is no compulsion with regard to the time of making the call either. There are various companies who are offering these international calling cards, and the prices varies from brand to brand. These prices differ according to the locations as well.

Prepaid or credit based method is more preferred than the postpaid methods. The first method would help in reducing the costs since any exhaustion will lead to cancellation of the line thereby keeping a check of the expenditure. These are easily available in the market and can be utilized in a very simple manner. There is no need to make trunk calls, which are quite bothering.

The pay as you go deals can be easily canceled at any point of time, and newer international calling cards can be purchased. The refilling of these cards is possible through online process, which means there is no need to pay a visit to the retailer again and again. It is a beneficial option for the tourists and visitors to different countries. Even the students studying in far off places find it quite useful to stay in touch with their near and dear ones.

There are several dedicated websites available on Internet, which provide complete and up-to-date information on such cards. Further more, a person can shop for these International calling cards from various portals, and can pay through payment gateway. And for using these cards one is simply required to dial the access number to the country one is calling from. Then, he needs to enter the 10 digit PIN number which is followed by the number, which one is making call to.

The utility of the International calling cards cannot be estimated in mere words, it can be experienced only. So, it is much better to avail these cards to stay connected with the near and dear ones at reasonable prices.

Dual SIM Mobile Phones – Release The Burden Of Carrying Two Phones

Friday, December 25th, 2009

A dual SIM mobile phone can hold two SIM cards. Dual SIM phones are of two type standby dual SIM phone and active dual SIM phone. In standby dual SIM phones dual-SIM adapters were made available to use in regular mobile phones to allow them to contain two SIMs, and to switch from one to the other as required. The active dual-SIM phones can natively work with two SIMs, both of which may be active at the same time. There are also some Chinese triple-SIM phones. One can Operate two businesses with two numbers from one Dual Sim phone. With Dual Sim Mobile Phones you can switch off your business number while keeping your private number open for family and friends. Dual-SIM operation release the burden of carrying two mobile phones. One can use two services without the need to carry two phones at the same time. One SIM for business one SIM for home. For example, the same handset can be used for business and private use with separate numbers and bills; or for travel, with an additional SIM for the country visited.

Standby dual-SIM phones

In this category various types of adapters are available. All of them allow only one SIM to be active, and to receive calls, at any given time; they give various ways of switching from one SIM to the other. In earlier versions phones needed to be switched off to switch from one SIM to another SIM. Later models allow the user to switch SIM cards via a menu or by keying in a numeric code, without switching the phone off. Some adapters require the two SIM cards to be cut to size, fitted onto a special holder and are inserted into the phone’s SIM socket; this can be quite risky, since the user might end up damaging the SIM card in the process. Other adapters don’t require cutting or modifying the SIM card. The adapter has two slots for the SIM cards, and a small ribbon cable, which is hooked to a PCB that mimics another SIM card.

Active dual-SIM phones

This category of phones allow both the SIM to be active at the same time and to receive calls from either number at any given time. Normal GSM phones contain a single transceiver; dual-SIM phones must have dual transceivers, and need to display signal strength for both networks. A phone with a single transceiver cannot be converted to simultaneous dual-SIM operation; at most it can be turned into a standby dual-SIM phone with the use of an adapter. You can buy dual SIM phones at number of location. Some of the dual SIM phones are DUALSIMTM SLIDER and DUALSIMTM MINI.

Phone Upgrade – A Subtle Way to Acquire a New Handset!!

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

Mobile phones have acquired an essential position in our lives, and these small devices are quite necessary for communication. There are numerous handset providers in UK who are fulfilling this requirement. Few leading among them are – Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, and HTC. They are trying everything to attract more and more people.

There are two ways to avail any handset, pay-as-you-go mobile and contract phones. In the first process, a person is free to move to any other network provider at any point of time. And there are no fixed monthly bills, the subscriber has to pay the usage charges only. On the other hand, in contract phone deals, an individual has to enter into a contract for a particular time period and he can’t switch to any other network during that span of time.

The role of Phone Upgrade comes after the completion of this contract period. And in case of prepaid mobile, if a user is tired of using the same handset and wants to upgrade it, even then he can go for this option. While staying with the same network supplier, a person can easily move on to a new mobile phone. There is a huge benefit of staying with the same provider, the users get discounts on their handsets while upgrading.

There is a tough competition among the network providers, and to retain their existing customers they offer free devices in exchange for a 12 or 18 month tie-in. As it is a contract deal, it is not found in pay as you go deals. The SIM free mobiles are tend to be the most expensive ones as compared to these deal phones. Although it has an advantage of being open to any SIM, it is not preferable.

While phone upgrading, it is always advisable to purchase a new handset through the network we are currently with. It makes easier to retain the same number with same plan. Very few options are given for choosing a new mobile phone, which depicts the interest of the provider. It allows to upgrade the phone package too.

The contract phone providers are becoming increasingly competitive, they are reducing prices and including more calls and minutes in plans. They provide different mobile phone packages suitable to the budget of people. Still there are many people who enjoy the freedom that comes with topping up only when needed. It is another way of saving a little bit of money.

Before purchasing a new handset, a person must search around for the best deals. The competitive market has a lot to offer now a days, which can ultimately result in bargains. But in case an individual needs to remain in the same network, then he can opt for phone upgrading. In this process, the user can retain the number.

As a whole, we can say that a person must analyze all the offers and deals offered by several network providers at the time of phone upgradation. It is a cost effective way to retain the number and acquire a new handset.
